Perhaps the grape cultivar with the longest known history in wine production, Aglianico has been grown for millennia in Southern Italy and Greece. Known for its powerful tannins, deep color, and spicy, savory aromas. Grown on a steep hillside of volcanic soil, this wine opens up with aromas of black licorice, fennel and star anise that predominate over a core of currant, plum and pitch. On the palate, the mellowed tannins and fine acidity enable this wine to shine on its own or pair beautifully as a food wine.
